Hope Haven Rwanda was created with a simple but powerful belief: education alone is not enough to break the cycle of poverty in Rwanda.
While many organizations focus solely on schooling or feeding, Hope Haven takes a whole-family, whole-community, Jesus-first approach. Our goal is to support students, families, and graduates. When graduates can pursue higher education and gain successful employment, the economy of Rwanda and local communities will see lasting change take root.
A holistic approach
Since 2013, the Family Department has focused on truly understanding each student’s home environment and family story, using regular home visits and personal interviews to assess living conditions, access to basic necessities, family structures, and the specific challenges that may hinder a child’s success.
By listening first, the team can respond with practical support, prayer, and connection to resources that honor each family’s dignity and history, rather than offering one‑size‑fits‑all charity.
Connecting families, changing lives
The Kugaba Initiative at Hope Haven is designed to help families thrive—not merely survive.
Kugaba is built on relationship, not simply financial support. Sponsors are invited into an ongoing connection through letters, photos, and visits. Many engage not only with their sponsored child, but also with the broader school community and families, creating deeper understanding and shared purpose.
Building a pipeline of Christian leadership
At Hope Haven, education is more than academics—it is a journey of purpose.
The Hope Haven Leadership Institute is more than a program—it is a bridge between potential and purpose. By integrating counseling, skill development, mentorship, and real-world opportunity, we equip students to lead with faith, excellence, and lasting impact.
